STUMP STORY OF THE DAY

Everything You Need to Know Heading Into Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final…

Win or Go Home in Florida tonight. Oilers vs Panthers live at 8:00 PM ET!

There have been a total of 17 Game 7’s in Stanley Cup Final history, including 7 since the turn of the century, most recently in 2019.

But not since 1945 has a Game 7 occurred after a team took a 3-0 lead in that series. Not until today. Not until when that puck officially drops at 8:00 PM ET (roughly, the NHL has been BRUTAL with this).

With a win, the Oilers will be the first team since the Toronto Maple Leafs went on to win the 1942 Stanley Cup after falling behind 3-0 in the series. They will be historic. Never to be forgotten.

On the flip side, we have the Florida Panthers. The Panthers had the whole hockey community in awe as they dominated in the first three games to have the Oilers on their heels. Not only will a win give them their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, it will also avoid their name being synonymous with choking.

The Panthers won Games 1-3 by a combined 11-4 score and had three chances until now to win the Stanley Cup.

Instead, the Oilers won Games 4-6 by a combined 18-5, including a 8-1 Game 4 and a 5-1 game six, both taking place at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The Panthers are 8-4 on home ice this playoffs, while the Oilers are 7-5 on the road.

To their credit, the Oilers have already been here so far this playoffs. In the second round, the Oilers went to Vancouver and faced a win or go home tilt on the road. They took that one 3-2.

There will be star power all over the ice tonight, as guys like Matthew Tkachuk, Aleksander Barkov, Steven Lorentz, Leon Draisaitl, and of course, Connor McDavid look to have their name etched in the Cup.

Puck drop at 8:00 PM tonight, hold on to your hats folks.
