[3/11/24] SEC Shove Fest🏀

No love lost between LSU and South Carolina

The 2024 SEC Women's Basketball Championship featured two 2023 Final Four teams in (1) South Carolina and (8) LSU. Both teams are filled with extremely talented rosters, and the expectations leading into yesterday's game were high.

South Carolina has dominated the women's college basketball scene the last few years, and this year was no exception, as they brought their undefeated record into the Conference Championship. A back-and-forth battle ensued for 4 quarters, and when the tensions got high, things got ugly.

With two minutes left in the game, a scrap broke out. Something we don't see as often in women's basketball, South Carolina's Kamilla Cardoso shoved LSU Guard Flau'jae Johnson to the ground following an altercation that resulted in a South Carolina foul. The benches then cleared, shoves were thrown, and ejections came raining down.

When I say raining, I mean RAINING. Both the ENTIRE LSU and South Carolina benches were ejected, and both teams played the last two minutes with empty benches.

Apologies have flown in from all involved with the altercation, including South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley. Personally, I don't think this is bad for the sport. We see high-intensity games end up shoving all the time in the men's game, why not the women's game? These players are just as passionate, the games matter just as much, so let's show the emotion. But let's just make sure no more brothers are hopping scorers tables!
