[3/23/24] THE CURIOUS CASE OF THE PURDUE BOILERMAKERS

The Purdue Boilermakers are an Interesting Team to Dissect

After two consecutive years of exiting March Madness in the first round, the Boilmakers are finally into the win column in the tourney. Following loses to Saint Peter's in 2021-22, and Farleigh Dickinson in 2022-23, the Boilmakers were able to handle Grambling State.

I've watched A LOT of this Purdue team this year, and everytime I do, I never walk away very impressed. Sure, they have the tallest man in college basketball combined with some sharpshooters in the backcourt, but there's something about this team that just..... doesn't feel right. Maybe it's a lack of killer instict, maybe it's my bias, OR MAYBE, it's because this teams reliance on Edey being bigger than the guy guarding him is too big.

Edey is talented, no doubt, but his game is painful. I feel like nobody talk's about this enough. He gets the ball two feet from the basket, and does a little hook shot, 2 points! I mean, hell, if I was that big I could do that too. Without Edey in the middle, being larger than the human in the other jersey, I don't like their chances in the long run.

They are streaky, they show up when they want to, and if Edey loses his head or gets in foul trouble, they stagnate. They never excite me, they don't bring a lot of energy, and they always seem to let teams hang around, which in March is SOOOOO spooky.

It seems like every year the committee and college basketball commentators SHOVE Purdue down our throats, tell us how amazing they are, how good Edey is, and how they are unquestionably one of the best teams in the country. Well I'm here to tell you, I'M NOT BUYING IT. Go ahead, Purdue, PROVE. ME. WRONG.
