The news broke yesterday that Raptors forward Jontay Porter was involved in an NBA probe into unusual betting activity around his player props. This is not the first time this has happened, actually, it's been pretty common since sports betting became a normal aspect of sports. 



The interesting thing about Porter is that the amount of money circulating his name was high... almost too high. For multiple games this season, large sums of money, upwards of 10k and 20k, were being placed on his player props (i.e how much he was going to score, how many rebounds, assists, etc.) Okay, not too weird but still weird. 



Where it gets weird is that groups of people were SCRAMBLING to get it in as fast as possible. It was A LOT of people, all at the same time, trying to put 20k on his unders. Was he telling people he was not going to play? Was he leaking information to his friends or business partners and then they were putting large sums of money on him to be... well, bad? 



They weren't very discrete about it because everyone was trying to place these bets at once, way to be aloof guys. The funny thing is, he was telling them he was going to be useless, "yo, take my unders, NO WAY I play tonight!". As a player who averages less than 6 points a game, it must not feel great to leak to your friends that you're only going to score one or two points that night. Kind of a gritty way to sports bet. At least have some confidence in yourself!
