Different Season, Different Stadium, Same Result

Pain.

After the Bills Week 1 loss to the Jets and 4 turnovers Josh Allen on the podium said, “Same shit. Same place. Different Day.” Feeling a lot of that right now.

We were at home, we were favored, the Chiefs had looked bad all year, the media had bought into the Bills hype (again), and everything seemed to point to us finally getting over the Chiefs hump. All that being said I woke up today with a pit in my stomach unlike any game I have ever watched.

I’ve said before that it was this year that I noticed myself becoming numb to regular season games and this is exactly why, as a fan of any team you know going into the year what the bar is, and until you reach the bar and surpass it you won’t be satisfied. Was the regular season post 6-6 fun? Yeah, it was. But even then no matter what the seedings were or who was a wild card, we knew we would play KC.

Don’t have many words for this game, in moments we looked good, in others we looked bad. We simply got outplayed again by the same crew and coach in the postseason. The more I think about the game the more lost I feel. In the moment I was furious at the fake punt call but if that works then I’m calling Sean Mcdermott a genius. The football gods even GIFTED us with the fumble into the endzone for a touchback and tried their best to give us a chance to go be magical after a couple horrendous drives earlier.

Not even mad at Tyler Bass, he sucked at the end of the season and needs to figure that out but we needed 7 on that drive. Even if he kicked that we would have lost in just as devastating fashion with Mahomes driving down and Butker finishing the deal.

The 2 things that hurt most about this are that 1, I know the Chiefs are going to look nothing like this next week and come out so flat against the Ravens. And 2, this was the best game they played all year, and they saved it for us. It’s hard to gain juice to say let’s just run it back next year, it is. Diggs had 21 yards, Mcdermott again lost a big game, does something need to change? Maybe.

Josh is never going to leave Buffalo. But I so badly want to win with Diggs and Mcdermott around him, I just don’t know how that happens.

When we do have our Super Bowl run I don’t want to get there without going through this team. We have to go through KC. Whether it’s at their place, ours, or the moon, we have to go through them. Josh Allen said in his postgame speech “I love this team.”

We love this team too.

I saw a tweet about a Bills fan who shoveled snow yesterday outside the stadium and members from Bills Mafia started sending donations to his venmo. Once he reached $300 he was shocked and got to Twitter to say that was way too much of a donation for him, so he kept enough money for 2 beers, and gave the rest away to Oishei Children’s Hospital in Western New York. After tweeting this the total increased to $1,700.

I wouldn’t trade my Bills fandom for the world. But this one stings.

We’re going to get it one day. (Deep exhale.)

Until then, life moves on, the sun is still going to come up tomorrow, our team may not have won a super bowl this year but we can all try to win our personal super bowls, whatever the adventure may be.

Maybe I wake up tomorrow and I’m a lot more pissed than I am right now, but for now there’s only two words left to say.

Go Bills.
