Husky fans flocked to Gampel Pavilion on a snowy, cold, January night in Connecticut. The Huskies are 1-6 all-time against new Big East foe Creighton, and looked to get that monkey off their back tonight; and boy oh boy, did the Huskies not disappoint. In their first game as the #1 team in the country since 2009, the Huskies put the full court press on the Blue Jays from the tip. Jumping out to an early lead and not looking back, the Huskies had the hometown fans fired up.

It was $2 Miller Lite night in Gampel, and it sure showed. Lines out the door, serving Miller Lites until the stadium ran out. Which is embarrassing, load that shit up UConn! Nevertheless, Gampel Pavilion was the loudest I’ve ever heard it. So loud that I think pieces of the roof may have ended up on the moon when late in the second half Donovan Clingan slammed an alley-oop from Steph Castle. Coach McDermott and his squad struggled to get anything to drop early, and that theme continued as the game progressed. 48 points is their lowest point total of the season.

Surprisingly enough, 62 is also the lowest point total for UConn this year as well. Karaban went into halftime scoreless, but came through with 13 total. Spencer and Newton continue to roll, and the Huskies got a huge boost from getting their mammoth in the middle back, Donovan Clingan. Imagine being Ryan Kalkbrenner? I’d shit my pants too.

The Huskies look to continue their dominance as they stride on in Big East Play. It will be interesting to see how the most animated coach in the country works his dominant big man back into the rotation. Let’s see if the Huskies can hold onto #1 for a little bit longer.
