[4/7/24] Immovable Force Versus Unstoppable Object

Updated: Jul 2

Donovan Clingan and Zach Edey

The National Championship is set: the UConn Huskies vs. the Purdue Boilermakers. It seems like this one was written in the stars from the beginning of the season. Both teams traded #1 and #2 in the rankings all year long, while basketball talking heads argued over who was the better team and who was going to make the run in March.

It’s now April, and two teams are left standing. This is the matchup the basketball world deserves, the two best teams in the land, in an absolute slugfest for 40 minutes.

The matchup the world can’t wait for is undoubtedly between the two giants, Edey and Clingan. Clingan, while not receiving all the accolades, is projected as a top 5 pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Edey, the two-time AP National Player of the Year, is projected as a second-round pick. Clingan and Edey have been the most dominant players in this year’s tournament, and it seems like both have a lot to prove on Monday night.

Edey is looking to finally get the national championship his school has been so desperate for. In doing this, he hopes to prove he is a true basketball player, not just a 7’4 giant who’s the biggest player on the court. Clingan, looks to quiet the haters and show the world that he is that DUDE. He’s received a lot of attention for a few games this year where he struggled, but another national championship puts that all to bed.

What do I expect from the matchup between these two down low? Honestly, I think they’re going to get after it. I expect a lot of post-ups, a lot of body banging for inside position, and a lot of blocks. Both of these young giants want to prove they are the biggest and baddest dude on the playground. Both of these dudes want to show they are more than just their height, they are basketball players. Both have a chip on their shoulder that’s proportionate to their height, and both are ready to leave it all out there on the court.

This may be the best matchup we’ve had in YEARS in the national championship game, and boy oh boy am I ready to ROCK.
