8 wins in 8 games. That is the N.C. State Wolfpack! If you have been watching basketball at all in these last three weeks you know about this team. They were by no means a NCAA tournament team until they won the ACC Tournament as an extreme longshot. They beat Duke, Virginia, and then UNC in the last three games of the tourney to capture the title and give them a shot into the dance.
The last team to win 5 games in 5 days and punch their ticket into the tournament was the 2011 UConn Huskies, who ended up winning the whole damn thing. Are the Wolfpack on a similar trajectory?
Last night we saw them face off against a very good Marquette team and they just thoroughly outmatched them in every sense of the game. Their guards, their bigs, their bench, all of the above.
N.C. State is now off to the Elite 8 where they will face conference foe Duke for a spot in the Final Four.
If the scriptwriters are working overtime right now, and I do believe they are, we may be on a one-way collision course for N.C. State vs UCONN in the National Championship Game and I don't know if the country would be ready for it. The team that has looked the most dominant over the last 2 years vs the team that has been dominant in the last 2 weeks.
March is almost over, but let's savor every ounce of it!
