Today weâre heading to the US Capital for our NBA Preview, letâs take a look at the Washington Wizards.
The Wizards are coming off of a franchise-worst 67-loss season in 2023-24 that was left with very few signs of optimism. Their one big sign of optimism was in former first-round draft pick Deni Avdija, who took great strides last year. Avdija was rewarded with a new team, as he was traded to the Trail Blazers for PG Malcolm Brogdon.
The Wizards did a bulk of their offseason work on Draft Day, which included 3 first-round picks. The Wizards took Alex Sarr with the second overall pick, Bub Carrington with the 14th pick, and Kyshawn George with the 26th overall pick. All will probably have significant roles after the struggles of last years roster.
When it comes to veteran players, the Wizards have some big names, specifically Jordan Poole and Kyle Kuzma. Poole was extremely poor last year, not only did he shoot a career low, he also became known for his head-scratching decisions with the ball in his hand. Kuzma showed he could put up some unreal numbers when given the ball, but the lack of help from the rest of the team really inflated his stats.
Iâd guess another âbuildingâ year in DC.
