Sure, I’d reckon you’d all like to see something about Iowa vs. UConn, but I’d bet we all watched it. So I’ll be the loser who nerds out over minor-league baseball. That’s right, I said it, MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. But not just any minor league baseball, we’re talking about the Norfolk Tides baby! They may be the most dominant minor league team ever assembled.
Two nights ago, they managed to put up 26 runs in a record-setting hit fest. Last night, they put up 10 runs in the first inning. This lineup has been absolutely RAKING! 8/9 starters have batting averages ABOVE .300, including four of those guys hitting better than .400.
The lineup includes Jackson Holliday, the #1 overall pick in 2022 and the top prospect in all of baseball, Coby Mayo the #29 overall prospect, Heston Kjerstad the #31 overall prospect, and Kyle Stowers who was at one point the #8 overall prospect in 2023 before injuring his shoulder and missing extended time.
In their 26-run onslaught Kjerstad went 5-7 with two home runs and 10 RBIs, while Stowers had three home runs and seven RBIs, Holliday added 4 hits and two RBIs. The team totaled 29 hits. They might be able to beat the A’s.
This is arguably one of the most impressive starting lineups in the history of minor-league baseball, but I doubt it will be here to stay. Holliday and Kjerstad will surely be on their way to the big leagues within the next week or two, and Mayo and Stowers may not be far behind them. You have to admit, this is one hell of a story.
The Orioles are one of the best teams in baseball right now and it doesn’t look like they are going anywhere anytime soon. They are loaded for years to come, and this roster is only going to get better as they call up their young guns.
