“We want the ball and we’re gonna score!”

January 16th, 2024

On Sunday we got the chance to watch America’s Team. They were led by a Quarterback who should be talked about as in the top tier of QBs in the league. He had all of his weapons around him. Combined with a stout defense a Head Coach still trying to prove that he is what his team brought him in to be. We were lucky enough to watch this team and we watched them beat the absolute breaks off the Dallas Cowboys.

The tombstone of the Dallas Cowboys being labeled as ‘America’s Team’ will read “1979 - January 14th, 2024” and the Time Of Death will be written as 4:31pm. It all went south when The Packers won the toss. They won the toss and elected to receive. When I heard that, I was confused. Matt LaFleur was not, he had conviction in his offense and his young rising superstar QB.

In the year 2003, LaFleur was a year removed from Saginaw Valley State, and against what would later become his team, Matt Hasselback infamously said, “We want the ball and we’re gonna score!” The Packers scored back then and they scored again on Sunday, in a 12 play, 75 yard drive that took almost 8 minutes off the clock. They did this with conviction. Jordan Love, Aaron Jones, and the entire Green Bay offense looked like a unit on a mission. They were not an ordinary 7 seed.

The Cowboys are too easy of a target. They have these high hopes and it comes crashing down every year. It has become sad because it seems like the only way they will get out of this seemingly endless cycle is by winning a Super Bowl. Not getting to one, and not losing one close, they have to win the whole damn thing. It is another year back to the drawing board for them and talks of parting ways with their Head Coach who has gone 12-5 in three straight years or their QB who is in the MVP conversation seem unfathomable. But in a league where there is 1 winner and 31 losers, they are simply in the latter group, and they are back to square one.

Dallas, good luck, I am not one of those who hate you, I hope you are able to figure it all out. How you do that is something much smarter people than me will figure out.

What I do know is this. Green Bay won the toss, elected to receive, and scored. The Packers as an organization looked at the world and said “We want the ball and we’re gonna score!”

Cheeseheads, you’re going to be heavy underdogs again this weekend, but go out there and shock the world.
